Gear S chạy trên hệ điều hành Tizen, tích hợp nhiều tính năng như nghe gọi, nhắn tin,...lẫn các ứng dụng thường dùng như Facebook, S-Health, S- Voice, GPS,...


Vì hoạt động độc lập với smartphone, nên Gear S cũng được trang bị bàn phím ảo để soạn tin nhắn, email,..Tuy nhiên, mặt kính cong cùng với kích thước bé của Gear S khiến tính năng này chưa thực sự thuận tiện.


Có thể hoạt động độc lập, nhưng Gear S vẫn cần kết nối với smartphone nếu người dùng muốn tải thêm các ứng dụng.


Ứng dụng Nike+ Running cho phép người dùng theo dõi quá trình chạy bộ rèn luyện sức khỏe.




Giao diện mặt đồng hồ cũng có thể tùy chỉnh hiển thị theo dạng Analog hoặc kỹ thuật số.
